AIM Tool & Die Scuff & Mar Test Fixture

Procedure: GM-9150P

Scope:
This fixture determines the ability of material to withstand scuffing or marring.

Machine Description:
The mar test fixture locates the test sample and loads the paper clip with a calibrated weight.

Test Description:
Test samples are 300-mm square, and the weight, pressure bar, paper clip, washer, screw and nut together weight 750 grams.

Test Procedure:
Insert the paper clip in the slot of pressure bar, large end down. Place one side of the sample on the line indicated on the base of the tester and the other side alongside the front part of the base. Insert the pressure bar and rest it on the test sample. Pull the sample toward the operator at a speed of approximately 37-mm per second. When the end of the sample reached the back part of the base, turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise. Repeat pulling the sample for all 4 directions of the sample. Remove the pressure bar and examine the sample for marring or scuffing.

Note: reinspect rejected test samples a minimum of 15 minutes later to be sure that the marring is not superficial and does not disappear upon standing.
